Introduction Our client, a newly established international terminal operator within the Durban port logistics sector, is seeking to appoint a skilled and commercially minded Financial Accountant to join their growing finance team. Operating within one of South Africa’s most important logistics hubs at the Port of Durban, the organisation is currently ramping up operations and building a strong finance function to support its expanding terminal activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Support the terminal initiatives to implement best practice and deliver excellent customer service. Ensuring accuracy, validity, and completeness of Financial statements Ensuring Financial Statements are in line with IFRS and other legislative requirements Journal entry preparation, accruals, adjustments, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of records. Maintain internal controls, audit readiness, and documentation standards to support transparency and accountability. Strong expertise on consolidations, variance analysis, and budget monitoring and financial forecasting Daily, weekly and monthly Cash flow management Ensure all month end reporting schedules are completed accurately and timeously Liaise with external auditors during interim and year end and attend to any issues raised and provide the relevant information per the Request for information (RFIs) Ensure that all revenue & expense of the terminal are recorded, accounted for in correct periods. Review all monthly schedules relating to debtors, creditors, stock, VAT, fixed assets, tax as well as all other items related to the income statement and balance sheet. Manage staff productivity and efficiency in the finance department. Ensure timeous payment of all service providers.
Desired Experience & Qualification
CA(SA) /SAIPA/ B. Com or equivalent qualification; with Accounting as a major. At least 3-5 experience in a financial accounting / reporting environment. Financial Accounting (assets)/Budgeting techniques/sound knowledge of principles of internal control Computer literate with excellent MS Excel skills (V- Look ups, Pivots, etc.) Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards SAP experience Knowledge of VAT, Taxation, Companies Act Analytical Proactive Time management Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
